History of Guyana Cancer Foundation
Members of the Media, Corporate Sponsor Gtt, our other longstanding Corporate Sponsors
Guyana Cancer Foundation was legally registered as a Non-Profit Organization on the 1st June, 2016 and started our screening program by offering free Mammogram + Sonogram to 100 plus underinsured, and low-income women. January 2017, we launched Cervical Cancer Awareness Month where we screened 250 women by offering free pap smears.
After some research, we realized that this was an important project for Guyana because of some of our high risk women in the rural areas. After speaking with Sharir Chan Chief Operations Officer of Guyana Medical Relief, I convinced him to get Guyana Medical Relief to sponsor 300 women in the rural areas. We went into Wiruni Village, Berbice River, Linden, Charity, Bartica, Mahaicony and Moraikobai, Upper Mahaicony River.
To date we have screened 700 plus women for cervical cancer. I am very passionate towards this cause because of my own personal experience with my mom who was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in June 2008 and is now a cancer free survivor for nine years. She inspired me to help our women to have access to free screening through our Corporate Sponsors.
- To provide help and inspire hope to those affected by cancer through early detection, education, awareness and free medical screening with a focus on the medically underserved, low-income and underinsured population and to make a difference in their lives.
- To reintegrate cancer survivors back into society.
- To enlarge the community’s support systems to make strides against cancer for fighters and survivors.
- To be the beacon of stopping cancer before it starts through education and support
On behalf of Guyana Cancer Foundation I wish to express our heartfelt thank you to Gtt for their partnership as Corporate Sponsor for this year month of Activities and to all our loyal and Corporate Sponsors.
